Paging file recommendations for Windows Guests

Hi,

I am looking for some information on the best ways of ensuring maximum performance for page file settings within a Windows guest running on ESX 3.5. I have read a few posts and not sure on whether the best way to optimize performance is to create a seperate vmdk file per VM to use for just the Page file, then allocate your page file to this vmdk though the guest, or any other solutions/options?

When this is the case, do you set the vmdk to exact size of the page file? i.e. for a 4gb page file would you allocate a vmdk of this size or allocate more? Also what are the reasons for doing this? i.e. how does this improve performance? Do you still follow MS guidelines on 1.5/2.0 times the physical RAM assigned?

Any information is greatly appreciated.

Regards

Craig
