I'm troubleshooting some storage performance problems on my vi3 environment. IBM HS21XM blades running ESX 3.5 with VC 2.5.
a quick #cat /proc/scsi/qla2300/2 shows that my HBA's are Qlogic QMI2472, firmware 4.00.29 driver 7.08-vm32
In Virtual Center, under storage adapeters, the hba's are shown as being QLA2422.
Maybe I missed it, but I can't even find the QLA2422 on qlogic's site. That being said, QLA are for standard servers while QMI are for blades. The host seems to know that it's using a QMI-class adapter but VC doesn't. Is this a problem? Is VC using a placeholder for an hba that it can't identify? I wouldn't think so, since VC gets its info from the host. Is the host misreporting the HBA to VC? Does the host actually think it's got a QLA2422 and not the QMI2472 specified in the file?
Does this impact anything at all? Can/should I fix it?
Hello,
As long as the server shows the proper value you are fine. I imagine that VC is just having trouble identifying the hardware. What shows up when yo do an 'lspci' from the Command Line of the service console or look at the contents of /etc/vmware/esx.conf? It could be that the driver is picking up the wrong name for the device more than it is causing issues with performance.
I would also open a case with your VMware Support representative so that this gets fixed at some point in time.

both lspci and esx.conf are showing the qla2422, not the qmi2472 that is
actually installed.

Hello,
I would open a support call with your VMware Support Representative, but the hardware may be identical at a chip level and that is why it is showing up as the same. They definitely share the same driver. But I think they should still show up as different. This should not however affect the performance or functionality of the device.
