unable to connect to vcenter 7u2 "vSphere API connect failed. Authentication failed"

Did a fresh install of shd. tried to connect to vcenter and got this message.

"vSphere API connect failed. Authentication failed"

tried to connect with hostname/fqdn/ipaddres. does not make a difference. Used root to try and connect.

Is there something i am missing here? do i need to do something in vcenter?

This is most likely REST endpoint not working on the appliance, We are changing the check method in out next release SHD is not dependent on REST API services of appliance.
