i seem to have forgotten the admin password for the website, however, i  still have root access.. how can reset the admin password?

Hello,

Please find the steps to reset the admin password below.

To reset the Skyline collector Admin account password:

  1. Login into the console of the collector appliance.
  2. Locate the credentials.json file
  3. Rename file to credentials.old.
  4. Reboot appliance.
  5. Admin account password will reset to "default".

and.. what is the difference between the advisor and collector?  do I need both?

Hello,

A collector is an appliance which is installed in your environment and is used to collect data and send it to VMware to provide recommendations and proactive findings. The advisor is a self-service web application which is used to view the recommendation and proactive findings by logging in using your VMware credentials.
