The certificate with thumbprint provided by your vCenter is not valid due to error

Using the simplified method to add vCenter I get the following:

"The certificate with thumbprint [0F:35:6F:0C:BC:FD:47:FC:42:3C:45:0C:38:47:DA:31:E0:5D:0D:68], provided by your vCenter is not valid due to error: "sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: PKIX path building failed: sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target"

Press "CONTINUE" if you would like to proceed adding the vCenter with invalid certificate."

After pressing "CONTINUE" I get:

Couldn't create collection task to test endpoint. -> java.lang.RuntimeException: Couldn't login the client. -> Couldn't login the client. -> Received SSO error -> The SSL certificate of STS service cannot be verified

I used the method found at Why can't I register vcenter? I get the same results.  And at PKIX path building failed / Can not Add vCenter I get

"We’re sorry, the page you’re looking for can’t be found…

https://kb.vmware.com/s/login/?startURL=/s/article/52658&ec=302"

Any ideas??

Hello RDGR

Welcome to Skyline Communities,

If you have followed the instructions, do check the logs for Skyline Collector.

Path to check the logs:

/var/log/skyline/collector.log

/var/log/skyline/health-collector.log

Share the error which you have observed.

Also check if the collector service is started.

Hello,

Welcome to Skyline Community.

The error 'The SSL certificate of STS service cannot be verified' can also occur if the the SSL certificate is issues to FQDN of the vCenter node and you are using IP address to add the vCenter or vise versa. Try to add the vCenter using both IP address and FQDN, it should work with one of the address.

If the issue persists we will need to validate the certificates and setup, please provide your contact details on the following URL:

Hello,

Thank you for your update

  1. Make sure vCenter and Skyline are having the same time.
  2. Check if you are able to login to vCenter server using the user which you are using for vCenter registration on Skyline.
  3. If the vCenter is configurred with external PSC, enable "Use Custom SSO Configuration"
  4. Check if you are able to connect to vCenter from skyline using the below command:
    #curl -v telnet//<ip address/fqdn> <7444>
