what does this mean: "Array Management system requires 1 opaque values but only 0 specified."

I get this error message when I am trying to add an array (Netapp Filer) on the SRM configuration:

"Array Management system requires 1 opaque values but only 0 specified."

I have included a screen shot.

This error appears if we type in incorrect credentials to the array also.

Any idea's? The error message makes no sense to us.

Well, the opaque value is something introduced into SRM 4.0 which will allow the Array Manager to return only IP Addresses on the array which are accessible by the ESX servers, and not all the IP addresses on which the array is presenting IP storage.

The bottom line here is that you appear to be using an older NetApp SRA, which does not have this additional opaque field in the Array Managers configuration.

Can you visit the SRM download site on VMware.com and download the latest NetApp SRA. That should resolve your issue.

We are installing SRM 1.0, not 4.0. But maybe we downloaded an adapter version that is made for SRM 4.0 and not the previous version of 1.0.

Thanks though for giving us something to look at.

quick side note, how does the word "opaque" apply in this situation? And the error message should be much more descriptive.

Thanks

Yep - i'm pretty sure its a mismatch between SRM versioning and SRA versioning.

My guess is that the 'opaque' reference is used here to highlight the fact that we are 'masking' certain IPs available on the array from SRM. Does that make sense?
