I need to upgrade:
from ESX4.0 to ESX4.1 (possibly esxi) at both a production and DR site
From SRM4.0 (I think) to SRM 4.1.1 at both sites
and the production site also has lab manager installed
Thankfully both vcenter servers are 64 bit -
What sequence of upgrades will work such that nothing gets broken?
OK I have figured out the labmanager piece - but still not sure about SRM.
Currently on SRM 4.0 - if I upgrade vcenter and esx to 4.1 update1 will it break SRM?
Table 3 and 4 of the SRM compatibility guide (http://www.vmware.com/pdf/srm_compat_matrix_4_x.pdf) list:
esx4.1 and vsphere 4.1 as compatible, but they do not mention update1.
So, when I upgrade vcenter and esx - do I have to avoid update 1?
Hi,
First of all use the up-to-date compatibility matrix:
http://www.vmware.com/pdf/srm_compat_matrix_4_1.pdf.

allso make sure your SRA version is supported with SRM 4.1.1

yes about the updated compat guide - funny thing though is that I got to that guide from a link in the 4.1 release notes!!
Just before you posted, I figured I would see if I could change the _0 in the url to _1 and sure enough!
So - from what I can see SRM 4.0 does not support esx 4.1 update 1 and neither does 4.1!
lol!
so, if I want to install esx 4.1 u1 then I have to first install -- oh, bollux! What a pita!
7000 pgs to read before I can touch anything. Yikes.
Thanx for the other links, I'll gather this stuff together and try to get my reading done during my vacation (sigh)
Hi,
the upgrade order should be:
1) vCenter
2) SRM
3) ESX
4) VMware Tools
