We're running SRM 4.1 and moved its sql database to a new sql server (new sql server has different host name). We successfully moved the virtual center & update manager sql databases but after moving srm4.1 database, the srm service won't start....
so far, i uninstalled SRM (NOT deleting the SRM database)...after SRM uninstall, i rebooted the server. Next, i re-ran the SRM install and started going through the SRM install...After pointing the SRM install to the vcenter server, port 80, and pointing to existing sql database, etc., i receive a Certificate thumbnail message and a prompt about creating a new certficate, which i say 'yes' to...Then the install continues and gets to the end when it says 'creating certificate'...then fails saying 'failed to install Certificate..Database Error Occurred.' At this point the install is unsuccessful
Any ideas on how to remove the old certifcate or get around this error??
thanks
I believe that error message is misleading in this case and issue is not related to certificate.
I still think this is DB permissions / configuration issue.

Hi,
1. Did you update the DSN and ensure that "Test connection" succeeds?
2. Does new SQL configured for mixed mode authentication?
3. Did you recreated SRM DB user?
4. Did you set the required permissions on SRM database? Permissions are specified in SRM admin guide.
Michael.
Hi Mike
Thanks for the reply. DSN connection is definitely successful. Our DBA did a backup/ restore of the SRM database to new sql server so he was certain sql credentials carried over, but I will check mixed mode and the credentials used.
Do you know why I'm getting the certificate errors during reinstall?? Is their a way to delete the current cert or any entry in the SRM database referencing a certificate?
Thanks
Hi,
Did you manage to solve the issue?
Michael.
Hi Michael,
I think I need to remove the SRM cert…do you know the proper way to do this….once I remove the cert then I think I need to reinstall srm

thank you for the info...i will review the KB articles and keep you posted
I have recently experienced this same issue after moving the SQL DB. In my case, it turned out the issue was caused by the database being owned by SA on the new SQL server. Changing the owner to the SRM SQL account worked like a charm.
