SRM:communication between the protected site VM/host to recovery site vCenter

Hi All,

This question is related to communication between the protected site VM/host to recovery site vCenter.

As we know in SRM environment while creating the recovery plan it's mandatory to pair site so that

recovery plan is successfully executed on both sites with no issues. For this we need to have

connectivity between protected site vcenter and recovery site vcenter. I would like to know

since both vcenters are connected, the hosts/VM which are present at the protected site can

communicate with recovery site vCenter or not?

In a nutshell VM/hosts at protected site can communicate with recovery site vCenter or not?

Does SRM mandates us to keep communication between these 2 as mandatory configuration?

Thanks in advance for any reply!

Hi Murali

Depends on which version of SRM you are looking at, but generally speaking there is extensive info out there on network requirements for VMware SRM, which tell you which source components need which network ports for which destination components in order for SRM to function.

e.g. For SRM version 5.8 see:

Network Ports for Site Recovery Manager 5.8 (2081159) | VMware KB
