SRM and IBM ds5300 asynchronous replication

Hi I was wondering if it is possible to implement SRM with asynchronous replication on the IBM ds5300 ?

The storage guy is saying he cant see how it works but I cant see why it wouldnt but any help appreciated.

Would I need to implement host replication or can i use the storage replication adapter as long as both ends match ?

Thanks

Hi,

1. The following info appear on IBM's site:

IBM Enhanced Remote Mirror software: includes Global Mirror with Asynchronous Write-order
Consistency (critical for mirroring multi-LUN applications), Global Copy with Asynchronous and
Metro Mirror with Synchronous capabilities.

http://ibmdsstorage.com/software/site-recovery-manager.html

2. Here you can find info on storage compatibility with SRM

http://www.vmware.com/support/srm/srm-storage-partners.html

3. I believe more info available in IBM's SRA documentation.

Michael.

SRM does support the DS5300.

You may use the IBM DS3000/DS4000/DS5000 Storage Replication Adapter 05.00.3550.0021 to implement a VMware Site Recovery Manager DR solution.

Both sites must have DS storage that supports Enhance Remote Mirroring and must be configured through Storage Manager.  Review the IBM DS3000-DS4000-DS5000 SRA 5 Installation.pdf for complete details on installation and operation of the SRA.

Host based replication may also work, but I have little experience with that.

Good Luck,

Rick
