SRM 5 failover but no failback

I had an interesting request recently that I have never really thought about.

Is it possible to use SRM to failover but not failback and manually cleanup the DR site?

I never thought about it because this is quite unusual as in theory, if data doesn't change, why not have a standby sitting in DR but the scenario I was given was this (thanks, hurrican Sandy):

Prod site loses MPLS but servers are still operational.

They want to bring up an instance of the application (with data) at the DR site for other remote sites to at least be able to access the data while primary site can keep working as well.

When MPLS comes up, they can repoint their other sites back to production and continue as normal and do a manual cleanup of SRM at the DR site.

I haven't seen any documentation on whether this is possible or not.  I am hoping to be able to keep protection groups and recovery plans as intact as possible without having to go through and recreate it all.  Anyone have experience with this or can point me towards a blog or documentation that may get me going in the right direction?

Thanks in advance!

Jeff

Instead of running a full failover can you use the "Test Failover" option instead?

you'd need to modify your test networks so they are actual networks instead of the isolated "bubble" networks but then you could access the data in the DR Site.

When you're done, perform the Test Cleanup option to wipe out the data in the DR site and Production should continue running as normal.

I'd think your biggest issue is getting data from the DR Site back to the Production site, but if you don't care about that data then it's no big deal.

You're a genius!

I don't know why I didn't think of that myself but that will work.  Thanks for that!
