SRM 4.8 Protection groups error

i am trying to create protection groups but i get the following error:

"" Unable to find a placeholder datastore for the host/cluster , Any placeholder datastores registered with the SRM server that were deleted and recreated in the vCenter Server will need to be removed and re-added as a new placeholder datastore with the SRM server as well. ""

i have already uninstalled SRM and installed it with new settings with no success, still getting this error.

is there any workaround or a solution without removing the VMs from the vCenter Server inventory and re-replicate again.??

regards

But, did you configured the placeholder datastore before create the protection group and/or reinstalled the SRM? If not, take a look here: VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM 6.0) Part 9 – Configuring SRM Placeholder Datastores

Hi Richardson

  yes, for sure.

i have already configured the placeholder datastores, it is a step by step process.

see the attached

Hi Najeeb,

Just to be certain - did you also create a Placeholder Datastore on the target site?

Ok, something else you could try is:

- remove the placeholder datastore (in SRM)

- evacuate all data off the datastore

- delete the datastore

- re-create a new datastore on the same LUN

- In SRM, register the new datastore as the placeholder datastore again.

Perform this on the target site firstly, and check if you can now create a protection group.

are you kidding ?

  - delete the datastore

we are speaking about terabytes of replicated data, over metered connection between distant sites.

is there any real solution,as stated at my original question ?

Your Placeholder datastore does not need to be the same datastore where your replica VMs are stored. It's just somewhere to store placeholder VMs, which are small files.

Do you have another datastore in the target site that you could use for that purpose? If so, just select that as your Placeholder datastore and see if you can create the Protection Group.

in this case, i have only one datastore for both.

Thanks

If you have another shared datastore visible to the target cluster, you could add that as a second placeholder datastore and test.

Otherwise - you mentioned in your initial post that you re-installed already. Did you create a fresh database when you did this, or did you retain the previous data?

If you used existing data, have you already tried just removing the placeholder datastore, then selecting it again (via Sites > Manage > Placeholder Datastores)?

If you are in a situation where you have to use the same datastore for your replica VMs and your placeholders, and removing/re-adding the placeholder datastore hasn't worked, I can't think of any other options. Probably best to open a support request so that it can be looked into in more detail.

You need a placeholder datastore at each location.

These datastores must not be replicated under any circumstances.
