Multiple Recovery Sites

Hello,

We already have one site A (Protected) paired with Site B (Recovery) and working very well.

We now need to connect site C as a Recovery point for Site A (Protected).

I get the message that Site A is already paired with Site B.

Does that mean we cannot pair multiple recovery sites to one protected site?

All have individual vCenter servers on 5.1 SRM verions 5.1.2

Thanks,

Peter.

There is a feature on SRM called Shared Recovery Site, but take a look at the following note from KB article: VMware KB: Setting up the Shared Recovery Site feature in VMware Site Recovery Manager 4.x and 5.x

Note: Shared Recovery Site is not supported on the protected site. It is only supported on the recovery site.

Based on the note, you can have a Shared Recovery site but not a "Shared" protected site.

Hi peter,

You can fit your sites by configuring  1:N shared setup.

Site-A as DR SITE and SiteB/SiteC as prot sites.

This config is qualified and works well.

Hi Peter

You can create a shared protected site by registering multiple SRM servers with a single VC on the protected site. But this configuration creates a single point of failure on the protected site so it is not officially supported and not advisable.

It might be useful for testing in a lab environment. For more details, you can check section: "Limitations of Using Site Recovery Manager in Shared Recovery Site Configuration" in srm-install-config-5-8.pdf

Regards

Ivan

Thanks everyone for all the advice and comments. Looks like we'll remove the connection to the recovery site and assign a new connection.

The shared recovery site looks plusable though.

Peter.
