Licensing question

We are trying to decide how we need to purchase our SRM license. We have a good idea of how many VMs we want to protect. I do have a strange licensing question though: since we will be using SRA when we will over a Lun all the VMs of course on that Lun are failed over to the protected site. In the most simplest terms if that Lun had 10 VMs on it, but we only wanted to protect 5 with SRM would we need a 5 license or a 10 license count for SRM? Thanks!

Hi,

If you go to Licensing option at vCenter Home, you´ll be able to see all your registered licenses and the Vms/CPUs available in your environment.

SRM product is licensed by  VM/CPU limited number. For example: 50 cpus/250 Vms.

And be sure you´ve the VCenter Enterprise license (Standard has not SRM functionality).

Best Regards.

Monica

I would recommend organizing your storage so only VMs you want to protect with SRM are placed on the LUNs SRM will be managing, see http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2084524

Hi,

As Ben said, it is not a good idea to have both protected and non-protected VMs on replicated LUN.

This will affect your ability to perform Re-Protect step after failover to recovery site.

Michael.
