Ideas on how to handle updating DNS on SRM DR failover to recovery site

Hello.  We have vsphere 5.5.  We are looking at doing a poc with srm 5.8 or 6 which is supposed to be GA in the next month or two.

I'm looking for ideas on how to handle updating DNS when we fail a protection group over to the recovery site and re-ip the recovery vm's.  We have a replicated MS ActiveDirectory that is in the recovery site.

It's nice that srm 5.8 has the IP Mapping built in now so we don't have to map IPs via csv but not sure of the best way to handle the dns updates.  We are going to be doing some testing but I'd like to hear what others are doing as well.

Thanks for any info you can provide!

Jamey

Hi Jamey,

you can see the documentation for existing script command dns_update in the SRM. (Adding a DNS Update Step to a Recovery Plan) If you have some issue with it you can refer to these KBs:

1. DNS customization fails in VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager (1039185)

2. VMware KB: Running the vCenter Site Recovery Manager dns_update script fails with the error: \VMware...

Hope this help,

Daniel G.
