We are attempting an in place upgrade of SRM 5.8.1 to 6.0. We run setup but it fails with the error "Failed to validate Site Recovery Manager compatibility with vCenter Server.

Please, tell us the exact build number of the vCenter server you're running.

I suppose that you was running vCenter 5.5 and then upgrade the vCenter directly to version 6.5, right? If yes, not 100% sure, but I believe that is the cause of the problem. My recommendation is to upgrade the vCenter from 5.5 to 6.0U3, then upgrade the SRM from 5.8.1 to 6.1.2... and the next stage is to upgrade the vCenter and SRM to version 6.5.

Hi Mike,

Yes, you have unfortunately hit an issue where you cannot directly upgrade SRM. As per the Upgrade Compatibility matrix (VMware Product Interoperability Matrices ) you can only upgrade SRM 5.8.1 to SRM 6.1.2. This would require an upgrade of vCenter to version 6.0 U3 first, and then upgrade everything to 6.5. However, I think you are trying to upgrade SRM to 6.1.2 first, while your vCenter is on version 6.5. This will not work and neither will a direct upgrade of SRM 5.8.1 to 6.5.
