Datastore on site recovery get too big

Hello,

I have a simple configuration with 2 sites and the 2nd site is a recovery disaster wich store the VM replications.

I have a problem with one of theses replications, which is the file server VM.

This VM has a big datastore with about 10TB. When I create a replication, after the first replication (wich take some hours...), the replication works well for some day (5 minutes synchronous).

And after a while, the synchronisation seems to restart from the begining and the replicate datastore is getting bigger and bigger. Actually it use more than 20TB while the original VM take only 10TB.... And it is still synchronising and increase the replica size...

Is there anyone with an explaination ? Thanks a lot.

Best regards

Hi @AptitudeL ,

If your replication is managed by vSphere replication, it can consume additional space if you had configured point in time instances. If not,  you can also check --> https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2150251

If this is storage based replication, It is better to check with storage vendor as well once.

Hi  ashilkrishnan

Thanks for you quick answer.

It a replication (vsphere replication) without point in time, the article you sent to me seems to describ exactly my problem.

Do you know if I need to recreate the replication or something else to do ?

Best regards

Yes, you would have to stop and reconfigure replication after applying the KB.
