Nisar,

I would highly recommend following the steps layed out in the SRM Evaluator's Guide. This has everything you need to install and configure SRM and to evaluate its functionality.

(Just realized you were asking about the RecoverPoint system, not SRM. I'll try to find something about that for you)

Thanks,

Jay

When you say "Recovery Point"... what do you exactly mean. Can you be a little more specific about what your trying to achieve?

I think he's talking about EMC's Recover Point product. . I don't think that this particular product is the type of replication needed for SRM. See here - http://www.vmware.com/pdf/srm_10_compat_matrix.pdf

RecoverPoint is one of the 4 array replication tools EMC has and all are integrated with SRM. RecoverPoint is Continuous Remote Replication, which gives you close to the protection of synchronous replication, but also has a journal of changes so you can bring to data back to any point in time. It's kind of like Tivo for your data. Another nice thing about RecoverPoint is that it's storage agnostic, you don't have to be running exact arrays (even different vendors) on each side and RecoverPoint can replicate for you. It's based on an out of band write splitter model, and the splitter can reside either on the host, in the fabric, or on the storage processor of the array.

Here's the latest SRM compatibility matrix, the support for RecoverPoint is on page 9.

I actually just set this up in our lab and did a demo of it this morning. If anyone would like to see a demo just let me know.

My apologies - I thought that RecoverPoint was a host based product, not array based.

Here you go, these are the release notes for the SRA which should answer most of your questions. You'll find these under \Program Files\VMware\VMware Site Recovery Manager\scripts\SAN\array-type-recoverpoint\ after you install the SRA. I'm working with our product management team to get a doc on this that's downloadable with the SRA on VMware's site, vs. just the buried release notes.

RecoverPoint 3.0 is supported with SRM with the currently shipping SRA. SP1 is not yet supported and will require an updated SRA. Please check with the compatibility guide for updates or consult your EMC representative.
