Asking the obvious... SRM 4.1.1 on vCenter5

Hi

About to implement SRM in new greenfield environment of customer. Customer would like to start with vCenter 5 and ESXi 5 since they heard all the good stuf I told them, but unfortunately there is no SRM 5 storage plugin for their HDS environment.

I doubt it, but can SRM 4.1.1 run on vCenter 5? The compatibility matrix doesn't mention this, probably because it looks rather obvious. But I thought I'd still ask to be 100% sure.

Anyother work-arounds appreciated 🙂

Hi,

AFAIK SRM must be upgraded as well. I agree with you that SRM 4 compatibility matrix must be updated to clearly state this.

You can get additional confirmation of SRM upgrade requirement in the following Uptime Blog post:

http://blogs.vmware.com/uptime/2011/09/srm-5-upgrade-process.html

7. Set aside 3  hours where you can work uninterrupted.  For some of that vCenter will  not be running, and during much of that 3 hour period SRM will not be  functional.  Once the vCenter Server upgrade has started, SRM 4.1 will  not be accessible for that environment until the entire upgrade is  complete and the vCenter Server, vSphere Client, SRM instance, and SRM  plugin within the client are all upgraded.

HTH,

Michael.
