corporate policy dictates we change our UNIX/Linux root password every 90 days. We've not yet attempted to change the root password for ESX's Linux. Is this advisable? Will changing the root password break anything? The only thing I can think of is VizionCore ESX Charter -- since when you setup the host monitoring it asked you for the root password. But ESX Charter is an easy fix.
I just wanted to ping the forums to see what other security people think/do for this issue?
much thanks...
It will not matter to Virtual Center, not sure about Charter, never used it.

You will be fine, as VC doesn't care once a host is added.
You'll just have to update ESX Charter when you change it in ESX.
It will just work as you are used to, no side effects.
thank you all for the quick responses and affirmation of my assumptions.
