ESX Patches

Does anyone know if there is there a consolidated patch that encompasses all of the available patches that are listed on the VMware website for ESX 3.0.1? Patching a newly installed ESX server with all of the patches takes a long time one by one. If not are they going to release one shortly?

Don't know of anything specific outside of mino release patches.

Here are a couple of threads on the board with some tools to assist with patching.

...

or if you want to, write your own script, but before do this, make sure that all patches will apply ordered by date.

I've made my own tiny little script that untar-unzips the tgz files and then launches the esxupdate command to install all patches in the order they came out. I am following the sequence on the VMware downloadpage.

I install all patches because if you missed one, then you don't know if you have to reinstall patches that came out after that.

Patching is one thing VMware has to improve and they are trying I think. One of the last patches is a cumulative patch of about 7 patches.

My script takes about 30 minutes to patch an HP Blade server and I reboot only at the end.

No, there is no such consolidated patch. Sorry.

There have been a number of tools posted in various forums. In particular, if you search for "patch" in the ESX forum, you will find several.

Setting up the patches on an FTP server really helps. You don't have to copy the patches to each server. Using the FTP server it is very eash to write a script to run the esxupdate.
