ovftool configure CD/DVD drive as Host Device instead of Client Device

When I run ovftool to create an OVA from a VM who's CD drive has been configured as Client Device, it creates the OVA in such a way that when I deploy the OVA, the CD drive is configured as a Host Device. I was expecting it to be created as Client Device. However, if I export the OVA from vsphere and deploy it again, the CD drive gets created as the original source, that is, as a Client Device.

Is this a bug in ovftool or should I be using some option to ovftool to ensure the CD drive is defined in the .ovf as a Client Device.

It has been almost a decade, but worth following up with the VMWare Team:

More flexibility in the interaction of exporting VMs to OVA and controlling how Optical/CD-ROM Devices behave.

For example, I'd like an OVFTOOL flag to simply disable the export of optical devices altogether.
