Hi,

We have purchased, VI3 foundation accelerator kit which is having VCenter 2.5

update 4 & ESX 3.5.

So Now my question is If i wanted to use vSphere server & client inspite of Virtual center

server management, then what I need to do ???, because vSphere comes with ESX 4.

Will appreciate your suggestion.

Hi Rashid,

1. You can upgrade your kit to Vsphere 4.0 and then you can connect to the ESX servers.

2.You can download the Vsphere client and connect to the ESX 3.5 and able to manage it.

Jay

Thankyou so much for your reply, I again wanted to make sure few thing:

Question 1.>We have purchased VI3 foundation kit, so now we have vCenter server,ESX 3.5 & VI Client, so now my question is in place of VI client can I use vSphere Client without investing any money ????

Question 2.> If I wanted to use ESX 4 inspite of using ESX 3.5 without investing money, what can I do ???

I hope you can make this clear for me, thanks.

If you log in to your vmware account and go to manage licenses you should see your 3.5 upgraded to vSphere for free. Which means you can upgrade what you have for free.

Hi Rashid,

1.Yes, you can use Vsphere client to manage the ESX 3.5 without investing any money.

2.No,You need to buy the upgrade license for ESX 3.5 to ESX 4.0.

Thanks,

If you have a VC, the way to upgrade is VUM (VMware upgrade manager)

If you do not, you will need to use VMWare host update utility

The migration path is:

(backup etc first)

VCentre

ESX hosts

Vmtools installation

VM hardware version

One day I will virtualise myself . . .

Hi Kumar,

Yes I'm coming late, but I need to tell you that I've upgraded from VI3 to vsphere client free & ESX3.5 to ESX 4 free as well.
