Issues with Installation of VMware VCenter

Hi,

I am trying to instal Vcenter server 5.5 (windows based). The software has been downloaded from the Evaluations page of 60 day free trial of VMWare. During installation, the following error shows up and stops installation -

"There is an problem with this Windows installer package. A program run as part of the set up did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor".

I am trying to install on my home computer and have not installed ESXi yet.

Can anyone help in this matter?

Hello:

I suggestions use of step by step installation, and don't use simple installation.

Thanks a lot for advice. I believe the problem is that I have a stand alone PC with Domain controller.

I am getting a message stating that VCenter cannot be installed on a Domain Controller.

do I ensure the system is not Domain controlled?

vCenter must not be built on a DC - this is by design to ensure minimum attack surface and vCenter downtime issues - you must build another machine that will run vCenter which will be joined to this domain..

Agree with Alistar.

Below is the statement given in below KB. KB is must read at-least once to understand best practices.

Verify that the system on which you are installing vCenter Server is not an Active Directory domain controller.
