Hello Guys,
I just installed two Dell M710 full-height blade servers with ESX 4.0.
They definetely support 64bit, otherwise I think ESX 4.0 couldn't run on that hosts.
Well, the installation worked fine, they are also connected to our fresh upgraded vCenter 4.
I tried to install the first VM with W2K8 R2 64bit guest OS. But the setup wizard offers only the x86 installation.
VT (Virtualization Technology) is enabled in the BIOS.
What's wrong with my setup or what is missing?
Thanks for any answer.
Best Regards
Timo
Try just selecting 2008 R1 64Bit, not R2, It should run fine.

Win2k8 R2 not supported yet , look at http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40/vsp_compatibility_matrix.pdf for complete supported matrix.
Thanks,
Samir

In this document I don't see anything about ESX 4.0 hosts....just about vCenter Servers and Client....
....but annyway....
In our test environment we run an ESX 3.5 64bit ESX host and last week I deployed a 64 bit W2K8 R2.
Thats why I can't imagine that ESX 4.0 doesn't support it....
But thanks for your answer...

W2k8R2 is availbal only as 64-bit OS.
If you finish wizard setup, does installation goes OK, or it shows the error?

I also thought there is just a 64bit installation of W2K8 R2 available.
But the installation shows the possibility to install x86, only x86.
Last week I used the same .iso image, it is so strange...
I finished the installation using the x86 option and a right-click on the "computer" validates it --> 32bit
Is there something to take care during the creation of the VM?
I do not think that it will hurt a lot. The problem is that VmWare doesn`t support WS2k8R2, because for now it`s still is not available in GA. I also do no not thinks that cando something with it for now. Need to note, that if you will install VmTools you can face with some troubles.
