Getting Started

Hello all I am new to virtualization so please bear with me.

My question is this. I have installed the Vsxi software on a machine, am able to log in remotely from the vSphere Client software, use the vCenter Converter software to image my working servers and place a copy of them on the vSpher. I have configured a seperate network segment on my router and configured the guest machines to utilize the network card that is connected to the new network segmen. I can power on my primary DC that does DNS, DHCP and WINS. I have manually addressed the network cards on this server to utilize addresses on the new (development) network segment but am not sure how to get the DC re-configured.

What do you mean? What your want to re-configure?

PS: it's always a bad idea make a P2V of a DC. Is better start from a clean server and use dcpromo (to create a new domain or to your on your existing domain)

I am trying to duplicate my current network and server configuration so that I can have a testing platform that is a mirror image of our production line. I thought the best way would be to use the converter software to change physical to virtual and then put it on a seperate network segment. Any suggestons?

Thanks

If you have VC, you can simple clone your VM and change only the network portgroup.

And use a VLAN to isolate this portgroup and this "duplicated LAN".

Without VC you can use converter or SSH + cp
