OVA VM Backup size different from previous backups

Hi, trying to figure out when taking a recent OVA backup the file size has dropped considerably when compared with previous backups (approx 8gb).  There has been no manual clean-up tasks to recover space.  An older vSphere 5.5 was used at the time.
