Is it possible to run Workstaion on an ESXi guest?

Hi,

For a rather unusual use case we'd like to run VMware Workstation within a virtual machine running on ESXi. It would undoubtedly give a bit of a performance hit (because of an additional layer of virtualization where it's not designed to be), but would it technically be possible in the first place, and if so, with what limitations and requirements? We obviously want to run 64-bits guests within VMware workstation.

I've seen some hints that you can have nested ESXi configurations (Re: unable to boot x64 VMs on nested ESXi host for example), but VMware workstation nested in an ESXi virtual machine may act differently.

What I understand already from reading the forums it requires:

* At least ESXi 5.0 (including enabling nested 64-bit), or 5.1 (where it's enabled by default)

* Hardware supporting VT-x/EPT

Hello and welcome to the communities.

Note: Discussion successfully moved from VMware Workstation to Nested Virtualization
