Install vmware tools on work station 15.5

0

Installed a new vmware workstation 15.5.1 on win10 pro, using linux/unbuntu 18.04 guest

Trying to get to install the vmware tools (not sure what options I may have selected when I installed the work station). But the install vmware tools menu is disabled. When I run my VM then I see: re-install menu that too is disabled.

How do I fix this.

Without it cut-n-paste etc not working

For tools installing on ubuntu, please use cmdline to install instead of using workstation menu

  • apt-get install open-vm-tools
  • apt-get install open-vm-tools-desktapop
  • systemctl status open-vm-tools
  • reboot guest then check vmtoolsd process

I tried this - I can see the vmtoolsd process running.

Problem not solved, no change in behavior - still cant cut-n-paste, nor can I move up the cursor above the prompt and no-scrollbar

Note: Using VMware Player 15.5 and Ubuuntu Server 18.04

Can you use cut-n-paste by share folder? You can enable the sharefolder by settings->Options->Shared folders->Always enabled-> Add a folder on your host

I have shared folder enabled.

I don't quite understand "Can you use cut-n-paste by share folder? "
