Tip: EMC Celerra NS350 iSCSI and vSphere 4 SAN HCL

Tip: EMC Celerra NS350 iSCSI and vSphere 4 SAN HCL

As part of my vSphere 4.0 upgrade planning, I checked VMware's HCL for all of my hardware. I noticed that VMware's SAN HCL for vSphere 4 includes the Celerra NS350 for NAS but there's no listing for iSCSI unlike many other Celerra models that explicitly state "iSCSI" and "NAS".

Good News: I opened and SR with EMC support who verified that the Celerra NS350 is indeed supported as an iSCSI target for vSphere 4 just as it is for VI 3.5.

For future reference, one can verify this by using the e-Lab Navigator tool found on EMC PowerLink.

I have seen alot of weird things going on on the compatibility guides. EX: 1 day some HP server g6 were not vSphere 4 compaitible, but yet 2 days later they were. Then go back in week later to make a print off for a client and sure enough again they were missing. With no pre filters except HP as the vendor. After numerous refreshes and choosing some specific CPU fmailies they were back again.

Don't know if anyone else has seen the same but this is becoming an issue to supply my clients with accurate information.

I even called support and they said they were vendor supplied and that it wasn't vmwares faught. My problem there seems to be when I do call in support there magically back again.

Jerry you should try to some refreshing on the guide see if they show up for you, and by trying to be sepcific on your filters.

I agree, weird things going on. I did check the HCL just before posting just-in-case and it still failed to show support for iSCSI target and vSphere 4. I hope they eventually update it. What's odd is that the other models of Celerra all use the same DART code so they should usually fall under same certification levels.
