Horizon View 7.9.0 - Ubuntu Desktop 18.04.4 LTS : environment displays ok, but any application window opens totally black (still works inside)

Dear Community,

Following the instructions in the VMware doc at Setting Up VMware Horizon 7 for Linux Desktops , I setup a Linux Ubuntu Desktop 18.04.4 LTS on the VMware Horizon 7 platform. Prerequisites have been installed, and the agent VMware-horizonagent-linux-x86_64-7.9.0-13916467.tar.gz was successfully installed. The window manager is the default (GNOME). An apt-get update/upgrade was ran. The virtual machine was then assigned to its dedicated Desktop manual desktop pool and assigned a user.

Attempting to connect with the Horizon Client on windows was no problem:

The sound/user control can be clicked on and displayed:

Clicking on the menu button at the bottom left works fine:

However, when starting any program, it will open in a totally black window:

(not matter what application: calc, xterm, web browser, etc.)

However it seems the application is still running fine (for example when opening a terminal, you can blind-type "exit [Enter]" and the window closes.

I have tried to increase the virtual video card memory to the maximum, this didn't help.

I am hoping someone has seen this issue and found a fix for it ?

Any recommendation would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all !

Are you seeing same behavior when you open vSphere console of this VM?

Hello kvmw2130, and thank you so much for responding to my post.

Logging into vSphere and opening a remote Console to this virtual machine, it works fine:

This was after a fresh reboot. Out of curiosity I tried to login through the Vmware Horizon Client, observed the issue as described in my first post, and then tried again on the VMware Remote Console on vSphere. And the problem is the same !

I was able to replicate this issue. It works fine in a vSphere Remote Console for as long as you never connect with a VMware Horizon Client. As soon as you do, then the problem will be the same in the remote as in the client.

Hope this helps troubleshoot, and thank you in advance!
