Horizon Agent version 8.8.0-21071111 on Ubuntu 22.04 black screen when no SSO credentials

We upgraded our Linux desktop pool from Ubuntu 20.04 to Ubuntu 22.04. In 22.04, the VMWare Horizon Linux agent version 8.8.0-21071111 shows only a black screen with mouse cursor in a situation where login is done with SSO credentials missing when connected via VMWare Horizon Client. We tested this with multiple workstations where we created a login attempt without SSO creds. The black screen makes login to the desktop impossible. The issue was resolved when the whole connection to the VDI server was disconnected and then re-connected, as the SSO credentials were returned at server login.

In the earlier Ubuntu 20.04 desktop pool the agent version 8.5.0-19566978 showed an Ubuntu login screen when SSO creds where missing and the user could then appropriately enter login details and still connect to the desktop. Here's the viewagent-debug.log for relevant parts (user anonymized):

Although there's a workaround of re-connecting to the desktop server, we'd like to have this resolved.

Kind regards,

Hi,

I'm happy to tell you that we tested the new version 8.9.0-21434177 of Horizon Agent for this specific Linux. With this setup, the black screen issue no longer persists. Case closed 🙂

Hey,

Have you allowed 22443 on the INPUT chain in Iptbales and changed the greeter (to Unity, GDM)?

Issue already fixed with Horizon 2303 (8.9.0)?

Did you already try with this version?

Hi,

I believe the greeter in use is gdm.
