VMware Horizon View 5.2 Hardlock USB Safenet

VMware Horizon View 5.2 Hardlock USB Safenet

Hi  Friends,

I need a help with USB without redirection for my VDI.

I would like to have desktops using USB devices in my host using "passthrouth" mode or something that permit I have for some VDI hardlock in my host not in thin clients.

I have some desktops in my VDI infrastrusture that needs to use a hardlock installed in the host ESXi.

I have already tested the desktop without the View Agent connect by console and the application that checks the hardlock in the host works!

But When I install View Agent without redirect USB doesn´t work, the hardware USB mapped to host desappear.

Could you give us any direction?

Thank You.

Regards.

sure - with the power of virtualization you can do anything! Smiley Wink

So - a USB device can only be accessed by a SINGLE VM at any time. However if this was a "licence server" vm which has the dongle connected, and your other vm's "check out" licences from that server then this should work well. I can't image you are intending that a single usb device is shared between multiple vms...

Anyway, its really simple to set up. a 2 step process:

Step 1: add a USB Controller to your VM

  1. Plugin the USB device that you want to use into the host machine
  2. From vSphere client
  3. Right-click the virtual machine you want to connect the USB device to and click Edit Settings.
  4. Click Add.
  5. Click USB Controller and click Next.
  6. Click OK.

Step 2: add the USB device to the VM

  1. Right-click the virtual machine and click Edit Settings.
  2. Click Add .
  3. Select "USB Device" and click Next
  4. Click the desired USB device and click Next.
  5. Click OK.

now login to your desktop using View, and the usb device should be available for use. This is all independent of View USB redirection which should continue to work as per your configuration.

this KB gives more details along with limitations/considerations etc: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=102229...

hope this works for you,
