windows 7 + pcoip = black screen at login

hi all,

im a bit new to this but here is where i stand ... i have vmware  view 5 i have 30 computers running inside the network, no firewalls between the servers and the end points, no windows firewalls on the servers or the end points

when the students attempt to login sometimes it works, sometimes they just get a black screen, with the virtual desktop minimize/close bar at the top, and they have to close and reopen the view client 2-4 times before it works,

in the end it ends up working, so i know the credentials are good,

we have gig through and through from end point to the server, so it shouldnt be a bandwidth issue

im at a loss and the teachers are starting to get annoyed.  this is a beta and i hope to go live everywhere, but if i cant get over this obstical, i wont be able to go full scale.

i dont have any win XP so i am not sure if this is isolated to just windows 7 or not.

any help would be much appricated

RDP is working for me too, it is a viable solution, I just wish I knew what the cause was. I will keep digging with the help of TheLittleOne, but for now I am to using RDP.

I have the same symptoms but if I half size the View window, it works with PCOIP protocol.

I should have mentioned that I am on Agent and View client 5.1.1 and am still experiencing these same problems.  RDP is a work around but not the right answer.

One more comment, I am experiencing these problems only in Manual Pools, my Automated Pools are working fine with PCOIP.

If PCoIP works with a reduced window size, it is likely to be an inadequate amount of video RAM configured for your desktop VMs.

Try increasing it - see http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1031002

I'm glad it's solved for you with the extra video RAM. Thanks for reporting back.

Mark.

I have the same problem. RDP works but I can not use it because I am using thin clients that support only PCoIP.

I have tried/checked:

  • more video ram
  • reinstall vmtools and view agent in the correct order
  • no windows 7 firewall
  • no disclaimers or login banners
  • no explicit error messages in log files
  • VMware SVGA 3D on windows 7 (Should I try VMware SVGA II???)

System description:

  • vcenter 4.1.0
  • esxi 4.1.0
  • view 4.6.1 on windows server 2003
  • manual pools
  • temp folder redirected on dedicated virtual disk
  • user folder redirected on dedicated virtual disk
  • Virtual machine description: windows 7 sp 1, 2 cpu, 2 GB ram
