Many times that occurs when the wrong VGA driver is installed. This happens when the View Agent is installed on the desktop, and then VMware Tools is updated after the fact. The result is the VGA driver included with the View Agent to be overwritten by the VGA driver in VMware Tools. You may see some benefit in reinstalling the View Agent, or updating VMware Tools and then installing the View Agent.

There is a few reasons why this could be happening. First off, try having a look at the KB article here:
Your description though leads me to believe this may not be the case with you, as you say the screen is blank when you see the console in vSphere. Is the VM still pinging when the screen goes blank? One of the first things I would check is the power settings in the VM. Is the display set to go off after X amount of time? Do the power settings allow the VM to go to sleep after X amount of time? You will want to make sure these settings are adjusted so that the VM doesn't go into a dormant state. If you are using linked-clones, you'll want to do these settings changes on the master image, create a new snapshot, then re-compose the pool off that new image.
From experience - an outdated VMtools / wrong VMtools + View Agent installation sequence can cause this problem.
Also, I would check out if your view client is connecting to the right IP address as you may have duplicate DNS entries that are stale. Maybe due to a long lease time from DHCP. Best to keep DHCP lease times low and add in 002 - Release lease at shutdown helps.
