Hey everyone, Im looking for best practice on naming convention for linked clone pools.
i have multiple pools now that have different purpose and each time im naming them a little differently id liek to come up with a standard scheme. i want to see what other people are doing.
what im doing now.
location-poolname###-VDI
for example
US-OFF001-VDI (united states-office is the application, 001 is the number-VDI)
Naming conventions does not have any thumb of rule, just need to stick within the 15 letter limit.
Couple of things that are following at our end are location / department / type (but sometime doesn't use VDI at all, as all those goes to a separate OU, instead specify the OS type W7 or W8 for windows)
I would suggest to stick on the best and convenient format that your suites your organization needs.
We're doing something similar except we do location-poolname-###
So instead of US-OFF001-VDI it would be US-OFF-001. I don't have the need for the VDI label.
how do you guys differenciate your VDI machines vs your physcial machines? do you just manage it through different OU's?
Yes, different OU's and only our VDI environment is named that way so it's pretty easy to tell.
