vmware view & direct connection without broker

Hello,

i`m completely new to VMware View.

I have a customer who is interested in VDI and he wants to get a clue, how "snappy" a Vmware View VDI desktop connection is in comparison to RDP.

Testing this should be as easy as possible.

While it is NOT possible to use a Citrix client to directly connect to a VM with the XenDesktop agent installed, without a DDC (Desktop Delivery Controller) being in place - i wonder if it is possible to do that with VMware View.

Why this?

Well, due to lack of time he wants to keep things simple and only want to have a look at the connectivity/performance between Client and VM, evaluating management stuff etc. (i.e. setting up the View controller) will be done later.

Is this possible ?

regards

Roland

If you know the IP of your virtual client, you can also connect directly to this IP.

But you loose some benefit of View Manager.

PS: actually the protocol is RDP... so there isn't a performance difference between View and RDP... only feature difference.

thanks.

i have to admit that i don`t yet know much about VMware View.

I`m quite surprised, that RDP is being used - so what`s the purpose of the View Client then?

Is it just a wrapper or does it add extensions to RDP ?

I`m quite surprised, that RDP is being used - so what`s the purpose of the View Client then?

View client is used for single sign-on, for connect to a single portal (the view manager), and for add some feature not present in RDP (USB redirection, multimedia acceleration ,...)

Also new version could use other protocols instead of RDP (at this time the other protocols are not for remote VMs).

Also there is the management aspect... View Manager can help to build your VM pools, and so on...

And there is the disk space aspect... View Composer can reduce the required space.

Is suggest to see all View feature (on www.vmware.com) to have more details Smiley Wink
