view persistent user disk

What needs to be done to ensure that all modifications to a view desktop will be copied over when a users is presented a new desktop ?  Some users have the ability to install programs etc. and currently when they are given a new desktop they have to re-install the applications.  Any suggestions on how this can be done ?

You cant do it. A persistent disk is only for the profile.

If you want users to install applications, you must keep them persistent. I would suggest using full virtual machines

Ya, thats what I thought, but things like the MS Outlook config, MS Word name settings and other simple user specific applications are not saved either.  Maybe there is a 3rd party product that will do applications and also application user settings ?

All that information is stored in the profile, which is managed by Windows. Most of it should remain in place after a recompose, unless you are upgrading the version of OUtlook for example. If you need profile maangement tools, you should look at RTO, included in View 5, but others are Appsense ENvironment Manager, profile unity and RES Powerfuse. However I think soemthing more fundamental is happening in your environment and you dont need these tools for what you are doing. These tools really come into play for automating per-user settings and for replacing raoming profiles in floating pools

There are known issues with a persistent disk not working if the user already has a profile on the c:\ drive.  if your missing common information from your profile after a recompose I would verify where the profile is actually being stored.

There are also some third party applications that allow for user installed applications.   You can look at liquidware labs http://www.liquidwarelabs.com/solutions/flexapp.asp and Unidesk although unidesk is an entire solution.

Also can you confirm that they have a persistant disk attached? They will be able to see it in My Computer, and then check to see if there are any files inside.

Cheers
