New to horizon 8. Have everything set up but my last major hurdle is that if I roll out a new golden image users lose everything on desktop profile they had save prior to roll out.
It acts like it is setting up account for them for the first time again all over.
What did I set up wrong and how do I prevent this.
HI
What infrastructure have you implemented for managing user profiles? DEM? AppVolume? FSLogix?
From what I understand you have implemented an instant clone pool if you don't have systems that save the profile outside the VDI you lose the whole profile. Otherwise you have to make VMs persistent.
Hi, @tedykgb @fabio1975
I suspect that Horizon is working as intended.
In other words, I believe the intended behavior is that profiles cannot be maintained after deploying virtual machines in Horizon unless there is a profile management tool available.
Profile management is usually DEM or FSlogix , Roaming User Profile...
Hi @tedykgb and @yukiafronia
As mentioned before, two types of pools can be configured in horizon:
where (other question is RDS Desktop pool)
automatic desktop pool:
normally are instant clones and the user profile must be saved outside the VDI VM to be maintained you can do it with DEM, APPVOLUME (Writable Volume) or FSLogix These VMs are "destroyed" when the user logs off
Manuals desktop pool:
Persistent VM machines that are never destroyed and come and profile is local to the VM and always stay in the VM Then if you want I'll explain why in most cases it is very advantageous to have instant clones for which automatic pools.
So @yukiafronia has configurated an automatic pool and needs to configure one of the above profile management tools.
Hi, @fabio1975
Correct and very clear explanation.
Indeed, for automatic desktop pools, you need a profile management tool.
My response, "it feels like the intended behavior" also assumes that you are using an automated desktop pool.
Well, the advantages of using a manual desktop pool... I'm not sure what you're asking...
If you have a small number of users, or if you customize applications for each employee and cannot manage all profiles at once, then a manual desktop pool may be a viable option.
HI @yukiafronia
I explained myself badly, I know very well the difference and what are the advantages and disadvantages of using automatic (instant clone) or manual pools.
I was telling @tedykgb that if he wants I can explain in detail the difference and what are the disadvantages of using manual pools.
