Hi there
Currently we are pilot testing VMware view 4.5rc.
We have vCenter 4.0 installed to Windows 2008 x64 with SQLl2008 vm and ESXi 4 installed to 2 blades
View composer is installed on view vcenter
2 view connection severs set up as replicate partners
We would like to upgrade view 4.5rc to view 4.5 final release.
Check the upgrade guide, to upgrade to view 4.5 we must upgrade our enviroment to version 4.0.2 or above so we are going to upgrade to version 4.1
Is there any issues we need to be aware of during the upgrade from 4.5rc to 4.5 final release
Here is what I am thinking the step involve for the upgrade
backup vcenter, composer, and event database.
backup the adam instance
screen dump all the configuration setting from view management
Upgrade blades esxi to 4.1
Take a snapshot of the view connection servers (both), upgrade view connection servers from 4.5rc to 4.5
(run the exe file to upgrade)
Take a snapshot of the view vcenter - upgrade the view center and view composer
(run the exe file to upgrade vcenter first then composer)
Appreciate any comments or feedback
Many thanks
Josh
I think that sounds reasonable. The upgrade guide walks you through the order of what to upgrade first, second, third, etc., so just follow the guide in the order you do things in. Also don't forget you'll have to update VMtools and the VMware View Agent in your virtual desktops.
Thank you for your feedback
with the connection server, we just upgrade the standalone server first once the upgrade complete, then upgrade replica connection server ?
Thanks
Josh
The upgrade guide, http://www.vmware.com/pdf/view45_upgrade_guide.pdf, page 22, does say that the standard (first) server should be done first.
Just be sure to follow the upgrade guide. It talks about a lot of preparation steps, and it gives specific directions to follow to do the upgrade. Page 22, for instance, says that if you don't stop the View Connection Server service on all servers before installing that LDAP database corruption can occur. Follow the guide and you should be fine.
