persona mgmt basic question

We don't use folder redirection and I don't really want to, if I just configure persona mgmt and a folder should it simply back up profiles to the sync location?

Yes folder redirection is optional.

All you really need is an available share and to turn on Persona Management via the GPO object.

Then mine is not working as it should, I have only 3 policies set,

• manage user persona
• persona repository location
• roam local settings folder

the %username%.v2 folder is created and if I show hidden folders and files I see ntuser.dat and 2 folders, the AppData folder and a folder with a GUID but that's it.  I was expecting to see my desktop, my docs, etc.. 

another thing is now my quick launch taskbar shortcuts are white and says it moved or was deleted. 

am I doing something wrong or not understanding this correctly. I just want my profile backed up, not redirected.  when I user the redirection policy from VMware is doesn't copy the contents to the share and they seem to disappear, I can't turn that on if it won't copy the files.

Hmm, that should work.

Are your MS Shadow Copy Provider and Volume Shadow Copy services running in the desktops? They are both required for PM to work correctly. You also need the Persona Management component of the View agent installed, but I think it is by default.

Not sure why my MS Shadow Copy was set to manual tho 😕 is it defaulted to that by MS on a fresh install on Win7?

Manual should be fine, that is the default setting as windows starts it when needed.

It just can't be disabled, which happens if you use the VMware tuning script for desktops that won't use persona management.
