customization error"Sysprep is not installed on the virtual center server for the template you selected"

Hi All,

Need your help with the customization script here is the steps what I have done so far

1.I have created a VM with Windows XP professional as the OS installed VMware Tools / VMware view agent then I added the virtual machine to the domain and created a template named (winXPtemp)

2.As per the article http://www.vmware.com/support/vc/doc/c12prepcustomize.html#1030366 I downloaded the Q257813_w2k_spl_x86_en.exe and extracted the same. On my VC server I dint find the path as mentioned in the article

C:\ [VirtualCenter_installation_directory]\resources\windows\sysprep\1.1 so copied the extracted files to the location C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\VirtualCenter Server\resources\windows

3.Then I copied and extracted the \support\tools\deploy.cab file from the windows 2003 CD and copied the extracted sysprep files to the following location on the VC server

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\sysprep\xp

4.After doing this I created a script under customization script named “testsript”

5.Note till now I have not created a resource pool as require deploying only 4 VM on a ESX server with customization script. The datastore for the VM is a 100 GB iSCSI LUN from a NetApp FAS 2050

6.Now when I am creating an automated pool when I select the script which I have created in step 4 and click next it gives me an error “Sysprep is not installed on the virtual center server for the template you selected. Install sysprep on the server”

Troubleshooting done by me:

I have readded the VC server to view manager but it dint worked

Thanks in advance for your help

regards,

v

If I remember correctly the location for XP should go in: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\sysprep\xp

The Sysprep files for XP SP2 can be downloaded at the Microsoft site and are called

Windows XP SP2 Deployment Tools

The article you linked was for VirtualCenter 1.x. Since you didn't gave a version number for VirtualCenter I assumed it was 2.x or higher.
