Vmware view 5 support for linux/ubuntu guest?

Dear Sirs

Is there an agent yet for linux especially Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.  With Android development picking up speed, we have a real need to have our developers.  The main thing that is needed for us is USB redirection to the guest from the client running XP/Windows 7 or even a Thin client for them to download kernels to our hardware connected to the client.  Thanks in advance, If anyone knows of other solutions, it would really be appreciated.

Are you talking about the VDI desktop side or the End Users client side.

there is a VMware View Client for Linux, this will enable Linux machines to connect to a broker and load a Windows VDI image.

however there is currently not a VMware View Agent for Linux that will enable a Linux remote desktop to be brokered via the View infrastructure to a end users client device.

there are rumours of people getting the Windows agent to work in Linux with the use of Wine and Rdesktop, but nobody seems to have posted a full blow by blow accoun of how this is done,  and further to that this would be completely unsupported from VMware's perspective.

HI,

Welcome to Communitry.

As of now there is no  Vmware view agent available for Unbuntu Guest os, to use it as virtual Desktop. With regards to USB redirection, it is available in current supported VMware view configuration.

Hi,

Unfortunately there is no VMware official statement about support of Linux/Ubuntu as  guest OS for VMware view Desktops.

For any question like this, its worth distinguishing what side you are talking about.

1.  Support on the client side.  VMware View running on _____ OS.

2.  Support on the agent side.  VMware View agent running on ____ OS to be presented by the connection broker for clients.

The View client is available for Windows, OSX, android, iOS, and Ubuntu or Ubuntu clone distros  (e.g. Linux Mint).  The View agent as of right now is only for a Windows system.  Is there a need for an agent on a Linux machine?  Absolutely, I'm one of them.  But VMware hasn't commented much on their intentions to build an agent for linux distros.
