If you are doing this for production then what I'm about to say has no merrit. In production you need to have multiple servers with a back end SAN. For just fooling around in a lab:
My lab environment has 12GB of RAM, and I can easily get all the View stuff to run with 10 desktops. This box has a Domain Controller, SQL Server, View Connection Server, vCenter Server (with Composer), and 10 Windows 7 VMs (oh and I have some XenDesktop running on it too).
If you follow architectual guides, skg is right as the minimum requirements for View are way over inflated in those documents. However, in the real world you can overcommit the crap out of View and still get good performance.
