Vmware Horizon View 6 Windows 8.1 Desktop Performance Problem

Hi guys

I've Recently deployed vmware horizon view 6 in my lab for evaluation. windows 7 desktops work fine , even can play 1080p video with good performance. the problem is windows 8.1 desktops. they have framerate problem i think. when I hit start to open start menu it comes up slow , I can see frames ...

My Lab configuration :

HP proliant DL380 g5

CPU intel xeon E5440 2.83GHz

Total Sockets: 2

Total CPU cores : 8

Ram : 64GB

Any help would be appreciated.

Can you provide more details on what is slow?  Is it video performance?

Agree with Tony.  Depending on what is slow, there are likely additional tweaks you can make to improve performace.

PCOIP or RDP?  Or have you tried both?

Hi guys

Im focused on PCoIP only, as I'm gonna buy PCoIP Zero Clients.

All visual effects are already turned off.

Still cant figure out what im missing. Windows 7 Desktops work perfect on the same Host.

I even tried expanding graphics vRam to 512 , Giving 8 cores to the desktop too , still when i hit start botton , i can see the frames...

Thanks in advance

Farhad

I am running Windows 8.1 in Horizon View 6 with sVGA enabled.  Windows 7 still performs noticeably better than Windows 8.1, but not enough that any users complain.  Follow Tony's steps, making sure you are using the VMXNET 3 network driver for optimal performance.  Also, I found performance increases (even without vSGA enabled) by following the tuning tips starting on page 27 of "Graphics Acceleration  in View Virtual Desktops" Whitepaper.

Increasing the vCPU up to 8 is not going to alleviate frame rate issues.  I would recommend setting them to 2 or 4.

Lastly, make sure the VMware Flash plugin is installed in IE (assuming you are using that browser).  When watching videos, I find that if I keep the mouse pointer on the video being played, the playback is smoother.  That has been the case with my setup specifically with YouTube since the initial 8 release.

Hope this helps.  Let us know how it goes.

So I'm not sure if the hardware acceleration settings differ in WIndows 7 vs WIndows 8, but here is another thing you can check.View_Browser_Optimization.png
