Virtual printing thinprint.

We have an employee going to a remote location which is not ours to provide some services.

This location provides an internet connection and we have a printer already there that connects through usb. (dot4)

We used to connect through a vpn connection but the internet connection is rather slow and not all that reliable.

To get rid of part of the problems we created a view image so that the application runs smooth and doesn't suffer from a disconnect.

The problem is that the application we use there is based on linux and previously connected to the printer by using the static ip adres and sharename of the printer. With VPN on this isn't a problem as i can still connect to the ip adres and sharename, but the vpn isn't needed anymore for anything else as printing.

With VPN on i can't seems to print to the printer from within the view session.

With VPN off i can.

Is there a way to have the thinprint provided printer proces the documents without having to startup a VPN session?

The less actions the person bringing the laptop has to do the better.

No way to base the application off the name of the thinprint mapped printer inside of the View session? The thinprint pieces just utilize a virtual channel for printing so I don't think are going to be able to utilize IP or Sharename without some type of VPN connectivity.

I had to return the laptop for a day so i can't test but by default the virtual printer shows as a local printer and won't be able to accept prints from the linux server. I can try but i dont think it will help when i get the laptop again tomorrow.

I have done some further testing and configuring.

The problem is down to the virtual machine not correctly forwarding printjobs send from the network.

It forwards jobs that are submitted locally without a problem, but whether i print from the linux server or a windows desktop the job is going to the printer in the vm and is killed somewhere between that VM printer and local printer.

Typical problem that you need everything when you start troubleshooting and keep an overview of all possibilities while doing so.

Today in frustration i attached another printer we had idling around and i came to the bright idea i wouldn't need thinprinting as it's an usb printer at the location and i can auto connect and share it.

Oh well lots of insight on printing in view and got the solution i needed.
