On vCenter Server the View Composer is running?

Any errors during his installation?

Just to make sure, please verify you have view agent installed on your master vm before taking snapshot.

Did you look at the console of failed clones via VI client? what state are they in?

You really should only get that error if you've installed the View agent on the master VM but did not install the composer portion (it's an optional feature, enabled by default). The composer feature is disabled at install time if VMware tools aren't installed first, so you should check on your template that (1) VMware Tools are installed and (2) re-run the View agent installer and confirm the composer agent feature is also selected.

thanks

I will doublecheck again - I never recall seeing the composer as an option to install

Ok, I finally got the tools installed then reinstalled the view agent (which now has the composer option to install)

still getting the same error though

And the vmware composer service is running on the master vm

Is the view composer supposed to be installed on the vc server or view adminstration server?

This is perhaps a stupid question but did you create a new snapshot with the fixed agent and recompose the pool to match it? Check the clones themselves to see if the composer service is present and running, it does still sound like composer isn't installed on your clones. Composer server runs on the same machine as vc, if you've got as far as creating the clone VMs then you're obviously ok there Smiley Happy

Yeah, I consoled into the cloned pool vm  -- composer and vmware tools are not installed

but are on the master vm

arghhh!!!!

I've tried it at least 5 times now - does the master vm need to be off to clone or take a snapshot?

Didn't matter either way

So - I must not be converting to a template correctly or can't take a good snapshot

Well it works if i use a manual pool type using a dedicated vm

must be the snapshot?or template when I clone it?

fixed it

thanks for the hep
