Hi,
If I buy View Premier 4.5 with active SnS, and ThinApp is upgraded (say, from 4.6 to 5.0), will I be able to use the latest version? Or do I have to wait for the next version on View?
Is VMware Workstation included with View 4.5, as it is on ThinApp?
Thanks.
If you have active support you are entitled to whatever versions come out while you are under support. I have upgraded from ESX 3.5 to vSphere 4 to vSphere 4.1. I will be upgrading from View 4 to View 4.5, and I have upgraded ThinApp from 4 to 4.5 to 4.6. As long as your support is current you are good to go. Also, the updating of ThinApp is independent of View. I have been testing View 4, but ThinApp has been upgraded from 4 to 4.5 to 4.6 in that time.
Workstation is included with View 4, so I assume it will be with View 4.5. You kind of need it to help maintain ThinApp packages, it makes it a lot easier.
Just to make sure we are speaking about the same scenario:
- You don't have standalone ThinApp licenses?
- You have View 4 Premier licensed, but you can access ThinApp 4.6 and run it legally?
- On the downloads page of View 4, you see ThinApp 4.6 as a downloadable component?
Thanks.
Yes, we are licensed for View Premiere. ThinApp is included in that license. In the View 4 download page, you see ThinApp 4.0.4. However, insead of going to the View 4 download section, go to the ThinApp download section. Here you will find ThinApp 4.6. Download that and install it. Your ThinApp 4 license is usable with ThinApp 4.6. When I run the install it shows my current license key that I got with View 4.
If you find this or other posts helpful, please award points. Thanks!
I wonder if that is something legal and supported by VMware.
Imagine that ThinApp 5.0 is shipped and uses a different serial.
Do you think you would be able to get a ThinApp 5.0 key?
By the way, in the Serial Number Portal is your ThinApp key listed as a View key, a ThinApp 4.0.4 key or ThinApp 4.6 key?
It is fine. First of all, if your ThinApp 4 key was not supported in ThinApp 4.6, it would not accept it during install. Second of all, if you are not under support, or are not licensed for the product, then it will not allow you to download it in the first place. Third of all, if ThinApp 5 is released, and you are under support, then you will be able to download it, and a ThinApp 5 license key will be added to your license portal.
If you can download ThinApp 4.6, then you are licensed for it. If you have ThinApp 4 installed, then when you go to install ThinApp 4.6, it will find your key and show it in the license dialog box. I have done this for awhile now. This works the same way as upgrades to vSphere do. If you are under support for a given product, you are entitled to ANY upgrades for that product.
In my License portal, I have x number of licenses for "VMware ThinApp 4 Client License" and 1 license for "VMware Virtualization Packager". Nothing is mentioned about View, even though ThinApp came with View Premier.
