View: Non-Persistent Desktop with Persistent User Data

We are needing to have a non persistent desktop that has a small persistent area (seperate drive?) where the user profiles are stored. Our goal is to have the OS/Software stay in a non persistent state but allow for user profiles to be created/saved on the machine. Has anyone done something similiar to this that could be of assistance in pointing me in the right direction?

Well VMware does not allow us to use the user data disk in a non persistent pool so the best solution is to use some time of profile software such as RES, Profile Unity Pro, Appsense. I would also look into folder redirection to a possible file share to offload a lot of the data.

Non-persistent are ment to be just that. As suggested you need to look into a profile management system, you could probably get by with roaming profiles provided you keep some tight controls on them.

Alternatively, you can use a persistent pool using user data disks and use the "Refresh OS Disk on logoff" setting set to "Always" or "Every X days". Which will closely mimic a non-persistent pool without the need for some other profile management.
