View Multi-Monitor Support

Hello all, attempting to test the multi-monitor support - I select multi-monitor and login but display is only going to one monitor. Is there something more I should be doing or configuring or should this just "work"?

THanks ahead of time to all!

see this KB article

However, to get true multi-monitor support you may want to take a look at SplitView

Hi Troy, thanks for your quick response - both monitors are at the same resolution. The monitors are configured so they create one large desktop, is that what you mean by side by side? Are there any limitations to what hardware might be supported? I only show one monitor in the Vista View client.

Thanks,

the /span option should work. But like you said it will span the two desktops with one large picture, not seperate windows. If your connection device is only showing one monitor, that could be the problem.

I'm sorry, where do you use the /span option? Is there a different way to launch the view client (which I assume then launches the RDP Client) than from the gui?

the view client uses RDP therefore your shortcut should have a /span option at the end.

Here's a good explanation

I have a feeling this is related to RDP version 6.1.7100 which is running from a Windows 7 workstation. I tried to launch an mstsc /span to a location server and did not get the proper results either... I am a little confused by what you meant by my "Shortcut" should have the /span option at the end.. do you mean my view client shortcut?

If you are not spanning monitors by launching mstsc /span then that is your problem. The VMware View Client uses the RDP protocol and if you can't span using RDP, you can't span using the View Client.

Hello,

I had a similar problem with some older XP workstations running the view client. The problem was the version of RDP did not support a high enough resolution. If the client is an XP or Win2k box, you may want to download the most recent version of the RDP client:

Hope that helps,

Thanks, it's Vista so the RDP client should be all set...

Louis,

Can you connect directly to the View-based VM using the Remote Desktop Connection software (mstsc.exe) directly, bypassing the View client? If so, you can determine whether the issue is with View or with just RDC. I seem to remember that there's an issue with Windows 7, Aero, and multi-monitor support, but since your remote system is Vista, this might not apply. Hope this helps.

No, MSTSC doesn't span monitors either - I'm suspecting that either different types of monitors or Win7...

Try disabling Aero on the Windows 7 host and see if that makes any difference.
